Programs
WKCTC offers two programs in homeland security
and emergency management:
- Associate in Applied Science Degree
in Homeland Security and Emergency Management Program
- Homeland
Security and Emergency Management Specialist Certificate Program
The
Associate in Applied Science Degree in Homeland Security and
Emergency Management prepares students for opportunities and
advancement in fields such as law enforcement, physical security,
emergency management, fire services, emergency medical management,
and disaster relief.
The certificate program for Homeland Security
and Emergency Management Specialist Program provides an overview
of agencies in the field and how they function within the National
Incident Management System. The program prepares students for
opportunities and advancement within organizations that have
safety, security, and emergency management needs.
Why study Homeland Security and Emergency Management?
The mission of homeland security and emergency
management organizations is to prevent terrorist attacks and
respond to threats and hazards to the nation. This complex mission
involves unifying a vast national network of organizations and
institutions in a variety of fields. Because of the constant
threat of natural and manmade disasters, demands in the field
have increased dramatically. The program provides students with
the necessary information and skills to help meet those demands.
Employment Opportunities
Graduates of the Homeland Security and Emergency Management
Program can seek job opportunities in both private and public
sectors. Areas of opportunity include the following:

- Opportunities in homeland security and emergency management
are vast and growing. The federal government spends over $50
billion annually on homeland security and emergency management
activities. Much more is spent by state and local governments
and the private sector.
- According to the U. S. Department of Labor, earnings for many
entry level positions in the field range from $30,000 to over
$45,000.

Enrollment Information
- Complete an application for admission to WKCTC
- Provide official transcript(s) from all previously attended colleges
(unless you are a visiting student)
- COMPASS testing is required unless the applicant has an ACT
score of 18 in English, 19 in mathematics, and 21 in reading
or the applicant has completed a college level English or math
course
- Contact the program coordinator after acceptance into the college for
advising
